Our Objectives
Through advocacy, continuous engagement and support, tailored to each individual client, our core objectives include:
BUILD RAPPORT AND TRUST WITH Families and individuals THROUGH EMPOWERMENT
- Engage with parents | guardians every week to build rapport and trust with the individual, parents|guardians and extended family
- Provide a safe space where all family members are encouraged to tell their stories in a safe and non-judgemental space, respecting each others story
- Providing a safe space for the children to be confident to speak and be open on what makes them happy, what would they like to see moving forward, and how they are a part of the journey forward.
SUPPORT PARENTS / GUARDIANS TO MAINTAIN & STRENGTHEN RELATIONSHIPS WITH THE FAMILY UNIT
- Build positive parenting relationships
- Provide resources to parents|guardians on how to better care for themselves and their child/children
- Engage with services that promote parenting programs and strategies to maintain positive parenting
- Mentor and provide role modelling to engage with children and parents|guardians from a holistic view; encompassing physical, emotional, social wellbeing
- Provide resources to parents|guardians on programs available to further support them in this area
ASSIST FAMILIES IN NEED TO ACCESS AND ENGAGE WITH SUPPORT SERVICES
- Supporting the family to identify what support services are available in their area and attend services with the family to build their confidence to engage and seek support
- Support the family to identify community initiatives and community services that provide educational and physical wellbeing to the children and the family as a collective
- For Indigenous families to connect with cultural support services that can develop cultural wellbeing to the family
SUPPORT PARENTS / GUARDIANS TO KEEP CHILDREN IN THEIR CARE
- Support parents / guardians to maintain a safe and clean home by providing guidance and hands-on practical tools
- Provide parents / guardians with budgeting advice to ensure they can manage their finances to provide for their families
- Help connect parents / guardians with external agencies and complementary programs, focusing on housing needs, financial planning, education and community engagement
ASSIST FAMILIES WITH ACCESSING AND RECEIVING GOVERNMENT FINANCIAL SUPPORT
- Discuss with families what financial support is available and support the family to obtain the documentation required for financial support
- Engage families with liaison officers at Centrelink that can further assist the family
- Advocate and support Indigenous families to see if they are connected with corporations specific to their identity that can help them financially
- Support families by attending appointments specifically for financial support and encouraging the family to speak to the financial entity
SUPPORT INDIVIDUALS TO FIND THEIR PLACE IN THE COMMUNITY
- Help identify where individuals see themselves in the community and how they may choose to participate to ensure ongoing positive participation in the community
- Support individuals by connecting them to their respective communities and empower individuals to be positively involved in community initiatives
- Encourage individuals to participate in community activities to develop confidence and strengthen the individual
STRENGTHEN RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN FAMILIES AND GOVERNMENT AGENCIES
- Accompany families to appointments with Government agencies
- Advocacy for the families so they understand the uniqueness of individual government agencies
- Supporting families to address past trauma they have had with Government agencies which will enable them to move forward positively and build a good and safe relationship with Government agencies
- Working with government agencies to identify any barriers or challenges to working with complex families
PREPARE Families and Individuals FOR CHALLENGES IN THE FACE OF UPCOMING COURT PROCEEDINGS
- Advocacy and support to attend and participate in court proceedings
- Provide education on court proceedings to ensure individuals and families are aware of the expectations during trial
- Encouraging and supporting the individual to take ownership and responsibility for themselves
- Connecting to culture and build rapport with families
- Provide resources and engage with external organisations on legal matters
BEING MINDFUL AND SENSITIVE TO THE CULTURE OF FAMILIES and Individuals DURING DIFFICULT TIMES, ENSURING THEIR VOICES ARE HEARD
- Working in a culturally appropriate manner at all times
- Ensuring all persons that work with Indigenous families are culturally aware of the extensive dynamics in different skin groups and being respectful of individual skin groups cultural practices and values
- Providing a yarning space for families that ensures their voices are heard
- Supporting external services to understand the unique cultural values of individual families and encourage such services around cultural sensitivity
